The Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to fill a full time non-permanent Correctional Records Technician (CRT) position, at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions in the future. Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) is located on a 60-acre site about 40 miles north of the Tri-Cities. CRCC is comprised of two-complexes.

The Medium Security Complex (MSC) is a 2,048 bed facility that houses Incarcerated Individuals (I/I) with Medium and MI3 Custody. MSC consists of 4 Hybrid units and 4 Medium units. The Minimum Security Unit (MSU) is a 480 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody I/I. MSU consists of 2 units. This is a work/program orientated facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs and Class II and Class III Correctional Industries work programs.

As a custodian of Incarcerated Individual (I/I) records, the Correctional Records Technician (CRT) enters, verifies, and ensures I/I sentence structure information is in compliance with appropriate laws and agency policy. The CRT processes, verifies, and maintains I/I sentence structure and criminal history record information provided by criminal justice agencies within the Offender Management Database system in a collaborative effort to improve public safety.

  • Ensure the contents of incarcerated individual records are legal, accurate, and maintained in a secure setting.
  • Review and verify accuracy of legal documents relating to convictions and sentencing.
  • Establish and validate agency jurisdiction of incarcerated individuals.
  • Verify electronic database information against source documents and resolve problems related to the incarcerated individual sentencing.
  • Verify identification of incarcerated individuals to law enforcement through pictures, fingerprints, and other physical data.
  • Maintain electronic and physical files.
  • Utilize, update, and maintain databases and programs containing information relative to incarcerated individuals' conviction, sentence, and violation history.
  • Enter information into the Department's electronic incarcerated individual database.
  • Archive incarcerated individual records according to established procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information protected by agency policy or federal or state laws.
  • Provide effective communication and thorough and timely request processing.
  • Respond to requests for public disclosure in compliance with federal and state public disclosure laws.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness regarding the validity of incarcerated individual records and identity.
  • Provide direct support to the Correctional Records Supervisor and caseload carrying staff.
  • Correspond with appropriate court or other legal staff to resolve sentence discrepancies or other issues related to the structure of the incarcerated individual sentence.
  • Complete appropriate incarcerated individual records paperwork affecting custody and release as required and within established time frames.
  • Become certified through Washington State Patrol to fingerprint.
  • Fingerprint (electronic or manual), photograph, and create s for staff, contractors, visitors, volunteers, and incarcerated individuals.
  • Use WOMS to create IDs.
  • Create and maintain lists as needed. Work with Courts for transfers and Court Orders to ensure timely delivery of incarcerated individuals as requested. Track the incarcerated individuals arriving and leaving the facility and methods of transportation. Create callouts for incarcerated individuals to be processed for releases, IDs, notary and fingerprinting.
  • Receive, process, and deliver legal paperwork as needed to incarcerated individuals in a timely manner.
  • Become familiar with the IAD and extradition processes.
  • Attend meetings as instructed.
  • Complete other assigned duties and tasks as given by the CRT2 and CRS.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, the public, and/or criminal justice agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems under highly stressful or adverse situations.
