Community Corrections Officer 2 (or CCO1 In-training) — Community Corrections Division, Kent, WA
Salary ranges vary by step and level and depend on qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at Step G. This full-time, permanent vacancy is for the Renton Field Office at 1404 Central Avenue South, Kent, WA 98030. The CCO2 position may be filled directly at the CCO2 level or at the CCO1 level with an in-training plan attached.
The CCO2 (or CCO1 In-training) will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to the agency’s mission to improve public safety by supporting the supervision and accountability of supervised individuals (S/Is) under agency jurisdiction. Supervision focuses on S/I accountability and intervention to support safe reentry into the community. Shift hours: Monday-Friday.
Responsibilities- Supervise criminal S/Is (supervised individuals) in the community in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules/Regulations, and agency policy.
- Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests; complete intake; administer assessments (risk, needs, substance abuse); manage electronic and hardcopy files and reports.
- Engage with S/Is to promote positive change using effective communication strategies; apply Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions.
- Enforce supervision conditions and the law; present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; recommend sanctions for courts/hearings.
- Identify, collect, document, process, and maintain evidence with proper chain of custody and storage; handle firearms in accordance with policy; ensure safety and security when S/Is are contacted outside of the office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Community Corrections Officer 1 (CCO1) — Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to carry and properly utilize a department-issued firearm.
- Unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.
- Ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and adverse behaviors; review graphic materials; and remain objective.
- Demonstrated ability through college-level coursework or experience in at least three of the following areas:
- Written communication, critical thinking, analytical reasoning, conflict resolution, situational awareness, problem solving and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and adapt to change.
- Qualifying education/experience combinations:
- High school diploma or GED plus four years of qualifying experience; or an associate/technical degree plus two years; or a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination totaling four years.
Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) — Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to carry and properly utilize a department-issued firearm.
- Unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.
- Ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and adverse behaviors; review graphic materials; and remain objective.
- Demonstrated ability through college-level coursework or professional experience in three or more of the following: field visits, preparing documents, assessing cases, referrals to resources, presenting cases in court, completing risk assessments, designing/monitoring treatment plans, referrals to resources, maintaining official records, supporting supervised individuals with access to community resources, sound case management, data entry, managing caseloads, and communication with stakeholders.
- Education/experience combinations for CCO2:
One year as a CCO or an associate/technical degree with three years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree with one year of experience; or an equivalent combination totaling five years.
- Permanent CCO2 positions have an in-training plan attached. Depending on qualifications, placements may be filled directly at CCO2 or at CCO1 with a one-year in-training plan.
- In-training appointments run concurrently with a probation or trial service period. Upon successful completion of CCO1 training, you advance to CCO
