The Transportation Unit is searching for a dynamic and professional Corrections and Custody Officer 4 (CO4) – Extradition Lieutenant (LT) to join their team.

As the Extradition LT, you would be an essential addition to the Transportation unit and to the Department. This is the perfect opportunity to utilize your strong conversation and relationship skills as you communicate with diverse stakeholders, build, and maintain professional relationships. The incumbent must have the ability to think quickly and pivot to urgent matters while providing consistent, accurate information to inquiring stakeholders.

They would also utilize a fair amount of patience and calmness in this role while communicating with stakeholders.

Duties As an Extradition LT, some of your duties will include:
  • Conduct Nationwide Armed Transports
  • Conduct armed transports of male and female prisoners to and from county jails and correctional facilities throughout the 50 United States.
  • Navigate through the federal “Flying While Armed” procedures by producing your unique number for each separate segment of travel.
  • Coordinate offender custody transfer with holding agencies and courts while managing travel times and coordinating routes.
  • Conduct searches of Incarcerated Individuals, their property, vehicles, and areas in accordance with department policy and chain of evidence procedures.
  • Direct compliant and uncooperative or hostile Incarcerated Individuals, to maintain discipline and order which may require the application of physical restraints and physical force in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Direct and manage special team’s personnel during high‑risk transports.
  • Be able to use physical and/or deadly force to prevent an Incarcerated Individual escape, to capture an escapee, and/or to protect human life.
  • Be able to provide flight deck and cabin security on a commercial airline during emergent circumstances. Understand the ramifications of shoot or no shoot decisions on an aircraft in flight.
  • While traveling out of state, at all hours, handle stressful situations and make unsupervised decisions for numerous Incarcerated Individual custody and travel situations. Some situations that involve abuse/hostility, may require the use of de‑escalation skills. While traveling, there are few areas that provide physical containment and there may be no support or supervision to rely on.
  • Always serve as a positive role model for others. Keep current on Federal Aviation Administrative regulations and each airlines tariff regulations regarding transport of prisoners and firearms.
Conduct Threat Assessments
  • Investigate Incarcerated Individual’s past and present behaviors by obtaining arrest information, reviewing DOC’s and nationwide law enforcement databases.
