Customer Service Specialist III

This recruitment will establish an employment list (valid up to one year) to fill future Customer Service Specialist Ill vacancies as they become available.

This position is responsible for providing routine assistance to jail operations in the areas of cashiering, responding to telephone calls, handling, and maintaining inmates' personal property, commissary, and public receptionist responsibilities at the facilities visitation window. Job duties and responsibilities require considerable physical activity, which may include moderate to strenuous lifting. Employees may supervise inmate workers in performing assigned work and must interact with inmates, corrections staff, and the general public on a regular basis.

The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is a department of over 900 employees consisting of five divisions:
Seattle and Kent Detention Facilities, Juvenile Detention, Community Corrections and Administration, and includes positions represented by eleven bargaining units, in para-military hierarchal structure, (chain-of command) environment.

WORK LOCATION: Employees may be assigned to either of two work locations:
The Seattle Division, King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle, or, the Kent Division, Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. Facility/assignments (both locations and shifts) are based on staffing needs of the department and subject to collective bargaining unit bid processes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Candidates must be willing and able to work in all areas of the facilities including work in confined spaces of a secured adult detention facility. Incumbent will have direct contact with inmates and the public on a daily basis and may be exposed to a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations, including exposure to bio hazardous material.

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a 40-hour work week, overtime eligible position. Incumbent must be able to work varied shifts which include days, swing, graveyard, holidays, weekends, and mandatory overtime. Facilities are operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
