Summary
Term‑limited temporary position until December 2026. If filled by a King County employee who has passed initial probation, it will be a Special Duty Assignment. The Finance and Business Operations Division, Treasury section seeks a Warrant Specialist (Fiscal Specialist
3). Primary responsibilities include ensuring warrant issues and redemptions balance, protecting against fraud, and responding to inquiries from banks, county agencies, and special districts.
Job Duties
- Prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and monitor daily warrant activities; accurately process warrant registers for accounts payable, payroll, and school districts’ warrant runs.
- Balance warrant indices, research and resolve reconciliation problems; add manual warrants to the mainframe warrant system for future clearing; provide warrant copies as requested.
- Process warrant corrections as indicated and approved by customers; review affidavits of loss, submit to bank, and coordinate follow‑up.
- Communicate with bank regarding reconciliation discrepancies and encoding errors; cancel warrants and report outstanding numbers for unclaimed property.
- Prepare general journal entries and interfund transfer vouchers; reconcile bank postings to warrant postings using Excel.
- Research fraud and counterfeit warrants; initiate credit transactions with the contracted bank; track counterfeits and inform the auditor and customers.
- Coordinate with school districts and internal departments to validate warrants and prevent fraud; ensure manual registers reconcile with electronic files.
- Coordinate with computer systems support staff to respond to bank and agency inquiries; ensure interface files are processed daily.
- Provide requested information to auditors, school districts, county departments, and the contracted bank.
- Provide backup to the Accountant for bank account reconciliation and cash management functions as needed.
- Provide backup to other Fiscal Specialists for cashier and bank transactions.
- Experience in fraud monitoring.
- Experience in an accounting environment, including creating journal entries and reconciling accounts.
- Intermediate‑level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage time and adapt to changing priorities; work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Bank employment experience with emphasis on fraud monitoring.
- Experience with LEAN processes and principles.
- Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams, and other collaborative online tools.
- Work Site:
Hybrid model with office days and telecommuting; primary office at King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, Washington 98104. - Location Requirement:
Must reside in Washington state and be within reasonable distance to King County worksite. - Schedule:
40‑hour workweek, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday; overtime eligible. - Union Representation:
