**** The Department of Biochemistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Finance Manager to join their team**.
** Position Dimensions
** This is a key position for the Department of Biochemistry business operations, impacting the entire scope of financial and administrative policy decisions, resource allocation and long- and short-term planning that has direct impact on the departmental financial health and viability. The Department has a large research program, two cost/recharge centers and a wide variety of gift and endowment funds. The position of Finance Manager is key to the effective and successful management of post-award and business operations for the entire department, and as such, has an important direct impact to the University.
** Position Purpose
** Senior-level management of departmental finance operations with an emphasis on post-award operations and compliance, to include development, documentation, communication, oversight and implementation of department fiscal and post-award management policies to ensure strict compliance with all SOM, UW, State and federal requirements. Plans, coordinates and directs entire complex process of post-award management for a large department within the School of Medicine involving multi-million grant funding, in addition to state, gift and royalty funding streams.
** Position Complexities
** This position plans, directs and coordinates the entire process of departmental post-award grant and financial management, encompassing departmental administrative operations and over twenty-three faculty Principal Investigator labs with multi-million dollar grants from federal funding agencies, private sponsors and foundations, all with their own complex sets of policies for fiscal management, reporting and regulations. This is an audit-heavy, high-stakes area that requires a senior-level manager with a strong expertise, broad experience and solid background in finance management, including exceptional level of expertise in all federal funding policies, state fiscal policies and UW grants management process.
Institutional knowledge combined with in-depth expertise in relevant federal, state and university policies and regulations is crucial. In addition to in-depth expertise in all UW financial tools and systems, this position continues to lead and manage the recent transition to the new UW Financial System (Workday) which encompasses new systems and enhanced processes for all aspects of fiscal reporting and management, purchasing/procurement, pre- and post-award grant management.
Ensure effective adaptation of all stakeholders (faculty PIs, fiscal staff, peers) to the new system tools and reporting requirements, trouble-shoot and serve as an expert resource helping lead the department through the complex transition to the new system. Perform complex data and business analyses across a large variety of grant and contract revenue sources for the department, making direct contribution to decisions that directly affect department business operations.
** Strategic Planning
** This position works closely with the department Director to develop long-range financial plans based on research and analysis, makes critical decisions and/ or recommendations to senior leadership based on in-depth research. Perform complex data and fiscal analysis and direct asset / resource allocation with substantial responsibility for the allocation of resources and program results. Holds high-level approval authority and key role in collaborating with the Department Director on strategic fiscal forecasting and planning across multiple funding sources (state, federal, grant and contract, royalty, gift funding) to help develop strategic vision and planning.
** Compliance and Reporting
** Serve as an expert resource to departmental director and faculty on questions of fiscal compliance to adhere to federal, state and sponsor regulations. Responsible for fiscal reporting as required by grant sponsors, MAA and UW SOM.
