You’ll join a friendly team that collaborates on revenue collection, accounts payable and receivable, inventory management, customer service, and much more. As a smaller agency, we offer unique opportunities to learn about various aspects of statewide accounting.
This position is based in our Lacey Headquarters office and will require in-person attendance M-F until after you have completed a training period, at which time you may qualify for a hybrid telework/in-office schedule. You must reside within commuting distance of our Lacey office for in-person workdays.

About the opportunityAs the Payroll Specialist, you will act as the agency’s expert in payroll and benefits, delivering outstanding support to agency employees and guaranteeing that all payroll processes comply with state and federal laws. You’ll also make sure employees receive their pay on time and without errors. In addition, you will manage the agency’s assets, keeping records accurate and handling asset disposal in line with state regulations.
Responsibilities- Process, monitor, and analyze the payroll functions to ensure all tasks comply with relevant regulations.
- Review and process refund requests, confirming each request is both complete and accurate.
- Serve as the agency's asset management officer and fleet management officer.
- Act as the unit's records coordinator.
- Welcome and assist customers, help with opening, sorting, and distributing the agency’s incoming mail, and perform other job-related duties as needed.
Education and Experience
To qualify for Fiscal Analyst 2 (Range 49: $4,428 - $5,956 per month), candidates must meet one of the following options:
- Option One:
Three (3) quarters or two (2) semesters college courses (200 series or higher) in accounting, auditing, payroll, or public administration AND Intermediate-level payroll or accounting-related experience, including tasks like accounting/payroll adjustments and records maintenance, analyzing and interpreting reports, assisting senior accounting/payroll professionals, payroll system transaction analysis and research, applying financial management principles, and preparing adjusting entries.
- Option Two:
Advanced-level payroll or accounting-related experience, including all intermediate-level duties plus fiscal year-end closing adjustment assistance, applying financial management principles to payroll or accounting tasks, and reconciling accounts or general ledgers.
