Job Summary
A Managing Director at BDO Capital Advisors advises clients through tax equity, tax credit, and other similar project finance transactions for renewable energy, infrastructure, housing, community development, or historic preservation sectors. This role is responsible for driving business development through networking, with the goal of converting prospects to clients. The Managing Director oversees and executes transactions to ensure all deliverables are met appropriately and in a timely manner.
The Managing Director also manages the execution team’s workload and serves as a mentor for staff, maintaining an entrepreneurial and metrics‑driven mindset focused on revenue results.
- Originates, structures, and executes tax credit transfers, tax equities and other similar project finance advisory engagements, managing financial, tax and business due diligence assistance for companies and/or investors.
- Engages in business development activities by marketing services to external clients and internal partners, developing client networks and supporting sales and marketing strategies.
- Networks with prospects to build revenue‑producing relationships.
- Analyzes client data to identify historical and projected financial and operating trends, reviews quality of earnings and assesses working capital considerations, potential liabilities and risks to assist and guide transaction decision‑makers.
- Collaborates with external legal, tax and advisory professionals to ensure deal execution.
- Reviews transaction documents, providing insights to clients for negotiations.
- Identifies pre‑ and post‑close business opportunities and enhances go‑to‑market strategies.
- Commits to satisfying internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Manages the efforts of the team, providing guidance with an apprenticeship approach.
- Directs due diligence meetings, drafts and reviews tailored due diligence reports specific to key issues.
- Manages and coordinates the client approach throughout the entire transaction process.
- Acts as the lead professional on engagements and serves as a principal contact for managing client deliverables, overseeing engagement colleagues, managing the closing process, and providing real‑time feedback and guidance to client and diligence providers for timely and efficient product delivery.
- Leads the day‑to‑day execution of transactions, including due diligence, data room review and the commercial negotiation of contracts and other agreements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics, required.
- MBA degree, preferred.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in tax equity, project finance or a similar capital advisory role, required.
- Experience successfully managing and leading a team of VPs, associates and/or analysts both in person and remotely, required.
- FINRA Series 79 license, or in active pursuance of licensure, required.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, required.

- Strong business acumen, with analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to understand how business model decisions impact performance.
- Experience reviewing tax equity and other project finance models.
- Comfort with ambiguity and fluid client situations.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to multi‑task and prioritize projects to meet simultaneous, multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Advanced analytical and modeling skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with a polished/professional demeanor.
- Must be a team player with the ability to work cohesively with colleagues and clients.
- Self‑motivated and work well under pressure with proactive follow‑up skills.
- Ability to travel for client meetings/events during regular work hours, evenings, and/or weekends.
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $250,000 - $300,000 Maryland Range: $250,000 - $300,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $250,000 - $300,000
