Position Description
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a Clean City Lead Inspector (Solid Waste Field Representative, Lead) in the Clean City Division. The primary focus of the Clean City Lead Inspector is to meet community safety initiatives, service demands, and requirements of the Seattle Municipal Code (SMC). The Clean City Lead Inspector will play a crucial role in keeping Seattle clean and safe by ensuring that SPU meets SMC, policy metrics, and timeliness identified through SMC, City Council, and the Mayor’s office.

Here is some of what you might be doing in this role:
- Respond to and investigate service requests primarily in the areas of illegal dumping and sharps.
- Provide backup response and investigation for other Clean City programs including but not limited to Public Place Litter, Adopt a Street, and Unsheltered Services.
- Arrange for and/or inspect trash and litter complaints in the public right of way.
- Provide back up to other Clean City Programs, as needed.
- Monitor contractor performance to assure collection and illegal dumping services are provided per proper procedures, regulations, and contract requirements and terms.
- Assist in the development of procedures, policies, and protocols for the Sharps and illegal dumping programs.
- Document business processes, create flow charts, draft procedures, and manuals, and inform customers and staff of appropriate business processes.
- Create reports, spreadsheets, service orders, and adjustments to service requests.
- Conduct daily site inspections in addition to routine filed inspections to identify violations resulting from service requests received by customers and other city departments.
- Interpret established policies and procedures and provide guidance to internal and external customers.
- Resolve complex, escalated and politically sensitive service requests by way of inspections, customer interactions, and collaborations with other City departments.
- Utilizes CSR Motorola applications and databases to conduct site visits and answer technical questions.
