We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our client to support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program. This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Manager. The role centers on mechanical design and analysis, beginning with component scoping and evolving toward pre-conceptual design of reactor components. You’ll collaborate with thermal-hydraulics, materials engineering, and program partners in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to deliver mechanical design solutions for the MCFR demonstration.
Responsibilities
- Perform component scoping to meet governing code requirements and project requirements
- Generate basic sizing calculations for reactor components
- Make 3D models of reactor components with commercial software
- Perform mechanical analyses using finite element method with commercial codes
- Coordinate with other disciplines and partners to deliver mechanical design solutions
- Conduct technical reviews of the client and supplier designs and deliverables
Key Qualifications and Skills
- B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years of relevant experience or M.S. in Mechanical or related discipline with 6+ years of experience
- PE license in the state of Washington or eligibility for licensure desired
- Recent experience with mechanical analysis software (ANSYS preferred)
- Recent experience with CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel and B31 codes (ASME BPVC III.
5 highly desired) - Experience working under a Quality Program (for example, NQA-1 or ISO 9001)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver qualified hardware and supporting documentation
- Understanding of molten salt reactors, fast reactors, and/or other advanced reactors
- Understanding of fabrication operations including machining, welding, heat treatment, and inspections
- Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
- Strong communication skills desired
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
- Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications
