Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) has a position opening for a Civil Engineer Supervisor within the Engineering and Technical Services Division (ETSD). Job Responsibilities

Supervises staff performing or serves as project engineer and Engineer of Record on technically complex, visible and/or controversial projects or programs involving several design specialties including: drinking water pipelines, conveyance pipes, valving, pump stations, ER-DIP, cathodic protection, water system appurtenances, site restoration, ADA ramp designs, and general utility infrastructure projects.

  • Leads the Drinking Water Design and Engineering Group.
  • Supervises activities of a design team in the preparation of preliminary and long range plans, schedules, estimates, budgets, detailed final construction plans, specifications, and agreements. Oversees project progress from design through construction.
  • Monitors the work of consultants and construction contractors to ensure compliance with contract provisions and scope of work.
  • Supervises the preparation of a variety of reports, correspondence and official documents.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
  • Supervises the growth and development of staff.
  • Ensure high quality design products from staff.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to complete professional Civil Engineering work.

Experience: Requires six years professional civil engineering experience, including two years supervisory experience.

License, Certification And Other Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Special Conditions

Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.

  • Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, and work in or near construction sites.
