Job DescriptionAbout the Role:
The Special Projects Division is growing and seeks a Senior Civil Transportation Engineer to join our Seattle or Tacoma team. You will be involved in downtown transportation improvements on design-build projects, refining your transportation engineering skills and expanding into design, project management, and client service. You will be supported by a collaborative environment to develop as a consulting expert.
What You ll Be DoingCivil Design and Development
- Apply engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions in areas such as linear utility projects, street improvements, design/build initiatives, and transportation infrastructure.
- Contribute to waterfront and industrial developments, leveraging skills to drive successful outcomes in these specialized areas.
- Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
- Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.
- Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem-solving using traditional and modern engineering techniques.
Project Leadership
- Manage project tasks, coordinating timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful outcomes.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Mentor team members to support professional growth and development.
Client Engagement and Exceptional Service
- Foster strong client relationships by listening to needs, communicating clearly, and delivering customized solutions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Who We re Looking For:
- Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of civil design experience with a PE in the State of Washington or ability to obtain reciprocity. (Internship experience is appreciated but does not count toward the three-year minimum.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
- Advanced Micro Station, InRoads, and Open Roads design experience is required.
- ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D and other engineering design software proficiency is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO, A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, 7th Edition.
- Working knowledge of USDOT/FHWA, MUTCD for Streets and Highways, 2009 Edition.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO, Roadside Design Guide, 4th Edition.
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods and techniques.
- Experience and ability to prepare roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.
- Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans and Standard Specifications and Design Manual.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer.
- Occasionally may lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
- Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
