Senior Component Engineer

Duration: 12 month contract (likely to extend/convert to FTE)

Pay Rate: $68.67 - 85.33/hr

An innovative aerospace organization is seeking a Component Engineer to support the development and sustainment of advanced Low‑Earth‑Orbit (LEO) satellite hardware. This role focuses on component evaluation, selection, qualification, and lifecycle management while contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and component libraries.

The Component Engineer will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including electrical design, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality—to ensure component reliability and performance across current and next‑generation satellite platforms.

• Provide technical support as a subject matter expert for engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality teams.
• Lead component failure analyses and coordinate corrective actions with suppliers.

• Develop, review, and maintain Component Engineering processes and best practices.
• Manage component lifecycle activities across multiple satellite programs.
• Maintain and expand the approved component library through research and evaluation.

• Review component requests for requirements compliance.
• Research alternative and equivalent components to optimize designs.
• Conduct BOM scrubs and review schematics and PCB layouts.
• Support component qualification planning and execution.
• Assess obsolescence risks and develop long‑term sourcing strategies.

• Partner with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to support hardware production and development.
• Contribute to both current production and future satellite initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (MS preferred for senior roles)
• 3+ years of experience as a Component Engineer in aerospace, space, automotive, industrial, or other high‑tech industries
• Practical experience with resistors and capacitors
• Experience working with diodes

• Experience with electronic component selection and qualification
• Proficiency in BOM management and analysis
• Experience with component lifecycle management
• Understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes
• Ability to review and interpret technical datasheets
• Basic project management skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience creating qualification plans and performing obsolescence analyses
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools
