The Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Function in a lead wastewater process engineer role as a technical specialist in conventional wastewater treatment
  • Use processes such as physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film processes, membrane bio-reactors (M ), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, and disinfection
  • Provide technical guidance over a process team, supervise engineering staff on projects, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables including process models, mass balance calculations, design criteria/basis of design memoranda, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, tradeoff studies, and master planning studies
  • Support multiple projects with complex technical challenges
  • Serve as a technical specialist guiding project teams in conventional and/or emerging wastewater treatment systems
  • Perform complex research (bench, pilot, full-scale) to assess treatment performance and incorporate data into process models
  • Develop recommendations for appropriate treatment processes, equipment, and materials selection
  • Oversee data collection, assimilation, analysis, and management for process modeling; prepare models and perform engineering calculations
Client Focus
  • Identify key client interests and drivers for ongoing projects and new business prospects
  • Communicate client interests to project teams and develop solutions aligned with client goals
  • Support business development, proposal development, client interviews, and winning messages
  • Present on wastewater treatment projects and thought leadership at venues and conferences
People Management
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster knowledge sharing
  • Support performance management, coaching, and career development
  • Provide guidance on design guides, standards, and engineering codes
  • Assist in developing and updating engineering standards and provide technical guidance on projects
Quality / Continuous Improvement
  • Apply knowledge and comply with quality programs
  • Support continuous improvement and change management
  • Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
Resource Management
  • Implement resource management strategies
  • Manage engineering resources for small groups
Administrative
  • Ensure policies and processes are implemented and communicated for work groups
  • Ensure adherence to corporate programs
  • May approve expense reports
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering preferred
  • 10 years of wastewater treatment experience with at least 5 years in water quality and treatment
  • Advanced knowledge of process design for municipal wastewater treatment; familiarity with design guides and standards
  • Experience with process simulators such as Bio Win, GPS-X, Sumo, and/or Simba
  • Established leadership with consulting, project execution, client services, and business development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
