WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Ports and Marine Engineer based out of our Seattle, WA office. The role provides engineering support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and inspection of port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects. This includes piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities.
The position delivers work products that meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites, surveys, reports, drawings, and data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist with development of project design requirements, incorporating marine‑practice engineering standards and specifications.
- Identify project site, design and construction risks and provide input on mitigation activities.
- Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and engineering software.
- Prepare presentations to communicate findings to internal and external team members and clients.
- Work with cross‑functional teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Complete all assigned trainings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 0 to 1 year of experience and prior engineering internship experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to express ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment; able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software, and fundamentals including statics and logical problem‑solving.
- Experience with AutoCAD and SAP
2000 and similar tools. - Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- 1 to 3 years of post‑education experience with exposure to ports and marine structures (rehabilitation and new design).
- EIT certification.
- Experience with Revit, MathCAD and similar software.
- Active participation in local professional practice organizations.
- Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design/build processes.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

CompensationExpected Salary: $58,200 – $96,030 (based on education, experience, skills, location; final offer may vary).
