Are you ready to take your career to the next level? Join us as a Senior Transmission Line Engineering Manager where you'll lead a talented team in a vibrant and fast‑paced environment, tackling complex challenges in electric transmission design. You'll work on both overhead and underground high voltage transmission line projects for some of the largest utilities across the country.

In this critical role, you will apply industry standards such as NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and more to develop and deliver top‑tier engineering solutions for capital and maintenance projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 765 kV.

Your responsibilities will include managing a team of engineers engaged in tasks like PLS‑CADD modeling, structure loading calculations, foundation design using MFAD and/or LPILE, and preparation of comprehensive project documentation across various phases, including planning, engineering, environmental, permitting, and construction management.

The Challenge
  • Lead multiple design teams concurrently, managing diverse projects for a variety of clients.
  • Develop and mentor your engineering team to nurture Leidos' talent and expertise.
  • Oversee staff management practices, including timesheet approvals and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Transmission Line Section leadership team.
  • Prepare proposals and responses to client requests for new work, ensuring clear definition of scope and effort.
  • Promote a growth mindset and creative problem‑solving to address clients' most challenging issues.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement to streamline processes and enhance departmental technical resources through innovation.
  • Manage task delegation, forecast future workloads, and contribute to recruitment efforts to meet growth objectives.
  • Ensure quality control across all deliverables to meet the highest standards.
  • Engage with clients to strengthen relationships and drive business development opportunities.
  • Monitor project portfolio health, leveraging Project Managers to ensure efficient scope, schedule, and budget management.
What Sets You Apart (Required)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering;
    Civil Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission design; or 8+ years with a Master's degree.
  • Proficiency in PLS‑CADD and PLS‑POLE.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification.
  • Ability to work effectively in team settings as well as independently.
  • Strong communication skills, acting as the primary contact for existing and prospective clients.
  • Business acumen demonstrated through understanding and meeting project performance metrics.
  • Willingness to work onsite at Leidos or client offices; some travel may be necessary.
  • A passion for team development through mentorship.
Favorable If You Have
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience.
  • M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with TOWER software.
  • P.E. certification or ability to obtain it within six months.
  • Familiarity with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or Micro Station, and GIS is a plus.

Work Location: Preferred candidates are located in Portland, OR, or Seattle, WA, but we will consider remote candidates based in the Pacific Northwest. Relocation assistance to Portland may be available for qualified candidates.
