PAY RANGE: $170,. Exact compensation varies on skills, experience, and location. Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.

Averro is seeking a Nuclear Lead Heat Exchanger Engineer who will act as the design lead for heat exchangers and contribute to the design of the primary heat transport systems for nuclear reactors. You will serve as a technical project manager where you will take ownership of the heat exchanger development, oversee design reviews, analysis reviews, and handle all supplier management responsibilities.

This is a direct‑hire Lead position with our innovative nuclear energy client located in Greater Seattle. This is a great opportunity for someone with mechanical design engineering experience with high‑temperature or high‑performance systems and extensive project management and oversight.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage technical requirements for the Intermediate Heat Exchanger, preparing or reviewing design specifications and ensuring correct application of ASME code rules to design and fabrication.
  • Project oversight, supplier management, and lead design and analysis reviews.
  • Technical vendor oversight of intermediate heat exchanger designer.
  • Review and accept vendor deliverables.
  • Support planning efforts, maintain schedule adherence for design activities, and integrate with overall plant design delivery schedule.
  • Identify and apply correct design codes for plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
  • Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design.
  • Interface with design team to create and manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Support design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined.
  • Develop testing requirements, test specifications, and provide technical oversight for testing.
  • Collaborate with other lead engineers on physical and fluid interface requirements and design.
  • Coordinate with other teams regarding results of analyses (thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, etc.) and integrate into plant design and operational decisions.
  • Establish and maintain system requirements and design basis documents for the primary heat transport system.
  • Generate design package for systems, subsystems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.
Qualifications
  • Degree and 10‑15+ years direct experience; advanced degrees can be accepted in lieu of experience.
  • 10 years of heat exchanger experience.
  • Background working with high‑performance systems or equipment design.
  • Experience applying ASME Section III Code to tube and shell heat exchanger design.
  • Experience with tube‑and‑shell heat exchanger design and TEMA standards, preferably with reactor's primary coolant pressure boundary.
  • Demonstrated experience designing complex mechanical systems, structures, and equipment.
  • Experience with quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA‑1.
  • Nuclear industry experience preferred.
