Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

Location:

Seattle, WA or Boise,

WSP is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to develop new clients and projects in the Healthcare sector and lead project teams to deliver those projects and grow client relationships. The candidate will actively participate in the full project cycle with a focus on complex healthcare environments such as hospitals, medical centers, and outpatient facilities—from design phase through final construction close‑out.

Your Impact
  • Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage client relationships and provide key technical input on pursuit efforts.
  • Coordinate, review and approve mechanical design plans to ensure high quality, consistency with best practices, and compliance with all codes, ordinance and regulations.
  • Apply high‑level mechanical engineering techniques to identify improvements across all project phases.
  • Plan and incorporate future‑ready techniques, operating strategies, and design requirements that positively impact owners, occupants, and end users.
  • Manage design and construction of mechanical systems from inception to completion.
  • Ensure deliverables are provided on schedule.
  • Drive new business through sustainable client relationships.
  • Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams of engineers on mid‑level and/or multiple projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, technical calculations, compliance documentation, and analysis memos.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross‑sections, and illustrations.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, concepts and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 7+ years of post‑education experience as a mechanical engineer with a focus on HVAC systems.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, particularly in the Healthcare industry.
  • Well‑known in the local design community with a network of partners and clients in the Healthcare market.
  • Proficiency with mechanical engineering principles, practices, design/build and design‑assist delivery models, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues.
  • Experience with project planning, design, and construction management across renovation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and mechanical construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving mechanical engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • LEED AP certification.
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience.

Compensation

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $118,000 – $175,230.
