This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products.

To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are actively seeking a level 3 Fluids Systems Design Engineer to play a pivotal role in our ambitious Zero Boil Off (ZBO) cryocooler program, focused on pushing the boundaries of aerospace technology. As part of a small, passionate, mission driven, and accomplished team of experts, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, qualify, and integrate ZBO’s cryocooler technology onto launch vehicles and/or payloads.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of experience designing, analyzing, qualifying, and launching flight hardware. Additionally, the candidate should be technically ambitious, have grit, and a proven track record of developing processes for new technology. This position is based in Kent, WA.

** Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*** Participate in the entire design cycle of pressure vessels and structure for space flight vehicles, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification
* Generate component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
* Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware
* Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis
* Develop component specifications and manage suppliers
* Leverage experience and engineering judgement to quickly design and produce non-flight, proof of concept hardware for fast-moving research and development projects

* Minimum Qualifications:

*** Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
* 8+ years of relevant, industry experience
* Recent experience designing aerospace or equivalent type mechanical system elements within aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles
* Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling CAD software (such as CREO, NX, Catia)
* Professional experience specifying fluid fittings and mounts
* Experience interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
* Proficient in simulation tools (such as ANSYS or NASTRAN)
* Expertise in GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and performing tolerance stacks
* Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing
* Experience specifying and justifying margins and test sequences for aerospace systems
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment

*** Familiarity with industry and regulatory requirements such as SMC-S-016, JSC-65858, ANSI/AIAA S-080A-2018, and NASA-STD-5020
* Strong knowledge of finite element analysis (ANSYS preferred) and problem solving skills
* Knowledge of complex cryogenic systems, including pressure vessels
* Experience with composite and metallic materials (ideally in cryogenic applications)
* Experience in the design, analysis, qualification, and launch of pressurized flight hardware
* Knowledge and familiarity with fatigue and fracture mechanics
