Position: 26-27 School Leader Pool - Principal

POSITION OVERVIEW

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) is hiring a Principal for the 2026–27 school year. Prior paid experience as a principal or assistant principal is required. Candidates who were previously accepted into the School Leader Principal Pool must re‑apply to be considered for this cycle. All administrators hired must hold Washington State Administrator Certification by July 1, 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of student academic achievement initiatives, focusing on closing the disproportional gap and ensuring progress toward District and state standards.
  • Provide instructional leadership—articulate vision, align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with learning goals, diagnose and address instructional gaps, and promote best practices.
  • Manage building budget and staffing in alignment with the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) and support technology integration.
  • Oversee human resources functions, including staff evaluation, professional development, and conflict resolution.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly environment, develop discipline plans, and address disproportionality in discipline.
  • Foster a positive school culture that values equity, diversity, and continuous improvement; build relationships with teachers, staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Participate in district leadership development, community outreach, and ongoing professional learning.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

  • Notification – application reviews begin January/February; selection may take up to 8 weeks.
  • ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    • Prior principal/assistant principal experience and SPS pool eligibility are required.
    • Washington State Administrator Certification by July 1, 2026.
    • Must be willing to work in Washington public schools.
