The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) invites applications from qualified individuals interested in providing leadership on transfer education issues in collaboration with instruction and student services administrators to apply for the position of Director of Transfer Education. This recently vacated position will represent Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges and SBCTC in matters related to transfer education to colleges and universities, legislative and executive branches of state government, and state agencies.
The Director of Transfer Education is an administrative exempt position headquartered in Olympia; however, some hybrid work can be negotiated.
- Provide policy leadership for academic and transfer education aligned with agency vision, focus areas, and statewide attainment goals. Principal responsibilities include leading work to strengthen transfer preparation for bachelor's degrees, ensuring seamless transfer among community and technical colleges and to public and private universities, advancing statewide transfer and reciprocity agreements, and overseeing applied baccalaureate degrees and bachelor's degree processes.
- Partner collaboratively with college and university leaders to improve access to baccalaureate education and completion of associate and bachelor's degrees in support of statewide goals for degree attainment.
- Develop and recommend policy direction and serve as a trusted liaison to legislators and stakeholders on transfer issues.
- Represent the agency and foster cross-sector alignment through active engagement with the Articulation and Transfer Council, Joint Transfer Council, Instruction Commission (Transfer Committee), and related councils and work groups.
- Facilitate inclusive degree revision processes, communities of practice, and other work groups and projects commissioned by the Joint Transfer Council.
- Engage in state, regional, and national conferences on transfer policy and research to advance innovation and equitable student mobility.
- Supervise the bachelor's degree development process (including Bachelor of Applied Science degrees, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Nursing degrees) from initial development to board approval in partnership with the policy associate for baccalaureate programs.
- Contribute as a collaborative member of the Education Division leadership team, fostering a positive, mission-driven work environment that advances student success and supports the state community and technical college system.
- Collaborate with SBCTC directors on dual credit programs, early postsecondary pathways, and key K-12-to-college transition points.
- Serve as the point of contact for questions and technical assistance with regards to transfer-related policies and practices including but not limited to degree approvals and common course numbering.
- Perform other duties as required.
The successful candidate is a creative and resourceful leader with exceptional written and verbal communication skills who thrives in a collaborative decision-making environment.
Qualifications include:
- Master's degree or higher and five years of experience in instruction or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Community/technical college instruction experience or experience working with community and technical college student populations.
- Experience in academic education and collaborating with baccalaureate institutions to support transfer pathways.
- Experience across multiple instructional and/or student services areas.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience with the legislative process or the development of college, state, or federal policies.
- Experience designing and implementing strategies that promote student success.
- Proven ability to build partnerships, foster networks, and lead cross-functional teams. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated strength in project management, execution, and results delivery.
