Position Summary

The Middle School Drama Faculty member reports to the Middle School Director and works closely with students, families, and fellow faculty while also being an active participant in the Performing Arts Department. The role includes teaching three sections of drama, coaching a student advisory group, and leading experiential electives and E‑Week activities. The faculty member will collaborate with colleagues to design, prepare, and deliver curriculum aligned with school goals and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as Advisor – serve as the primary contact between home and school; communicate with advisee teachers, grade‑level team, office, support staff, and the MS Director.
  • Communicate with advisee families throughout the school year focusing on academic and behavioral goals.
  • Attend homeroom each morning, take attendance, and read the daily bulletin.
  • Be familiar with all roles and responsibilities outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Teach or co‑teach E‑Electives and E‑Week classes.
  • Serve as chaperone, including driving students in Bush School vehicles when necessary.
  • Attend all grade‑level, Middle School, Department, All‑Staff, beginning‑of‑year, and end‑of‑year faculty meetings.
  • Deliver instruction to three drama sections, advise students, and conduct an elective class in every rotation.
  • Produce two school‑year productions, including all rehearsals.
  • Run an after‑school club each semester and provide support for other performing arts events.
Successful Candidates Will
  • Maintain a strong work ethic with high standards of professionalism, organization, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Show genuine passion, patience, and compassionate care in guiding middle school students, fostering a supportive and engaging environment that nurtures both academic growth and personal development.
  • Maintain a willingness to assume additional responsibilities as required.
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and sound judgment in decision‑making.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (required), preferably in the subject area being taught.
  • Hold a teaching degree and/or have comparable classroom teaching experience.
  • Be familiar with Google Apps for Education.
  • Be familiar with Learning Management Systems.
Additional Requirements
  • Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date).
  • Meet the school’s standards for two separate background screenings.
  • Demonstrated physical capability to stand, walk, and manage classroom materials for extended periods; ability to lift or move items 10–25 pounds; handle small objects for writing.
