Brooklyn Glass is an artist-owned studio and a vital resource for glass artists and craftspeople in the New York City area. We support a wide range of practices, including glassblowing, hot casting, kiln casting, neon, flame working, and fusing.
We are seeking experienced freelance teachers and teaching assistants to support classes in glassblowing, flame working, or neon bending.
Our courses take place in a unique, professional environment alongside working artists. Classes typically consist of 6–9 students. In the Hot Shop, instructors are supported by two teaching assistants, while other studios such as Flame working and Neon, are assigned teaching assistants based on class size. We offer a wide range of introductory classes and actively foster a welcoming community for first-time glass students.
Responsibilities- Assist or lead glass classes and demonstrations
- Support students safely and confidently in a hot shop/flame shop environment
- Collaborate with co-teachers to ensure smooth class operations
- Help with cleanup and basic studio maintenance
- Teaching or assisting experience preferred
- Strong safety awareness and clear communication skills
- Reliable, professional, and comfortable working with the public
- Freelance work, based on class availability
- Teaching Rate is $42 per hour and the Teaching Assistant Rate is $28 per hour
