Assistant Professor; WOT - Sports Medicine Service- UW Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine

Overview

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time orthopaedic surgeon fellowship trained in sports medicine. This Assistant Professor position will initially be based at the University of Washington and the Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center, with the majority of time dedicated to UW Medicine. Responsibilities could include resident, medical student and education, and clinical or basic research.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a busy clinical practice focused on sports medicine and surgery as well as a robust program in clinical research, the study of educational methodologies, or basic science research.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure) rank depending on qualifications. The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds.

This position has a flexible start date in the summer or fall of 2026. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Salary
Overall compensation is a combination of base salary plus other compensation. Base compensation is only one component of total compensation. The base salary range for this position inclusive of both UW and VA salary is at: $29,167 – $33,334 per month ($,008 annually) at the Assistant Professor rank. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Note that the base salary is not inclusive of total annual/monthly compensation. Other non-base compensation will be included with this financial package through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Other Compensation
Other compensation associated with this position will include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the UW Physicians practice plan.
