Some of what you'll be doing:

This is a full-time summer and part‑time school year internship opportunity expected to last one year. This internship position will assist the Strategic Planning Manager in work surrounding the Port‑wide, cross‑divisional projects, exploration of potential disruption to the Port and Port‑related industries, development of planning tools, Workboard (a tool used by leadership to track progress towards leadership priorities), other internal tracking systems, creation of Port‑wide SWOT analysis, and other tasks as assigned.

  • Research on potential disruptions for the Port business or Port‑related industries
  • Plan 1‑2 virtual disruption events
  • Assist in the aggregation of data and information collected from cross‑port assessments and collaborative projects
  • Assist in group facilitations and strategic planning exercises
  • Learn Workboard and populate the tool with reports and data collected from Divisions on their progress towards leadership priorities and the Ports Century Agenda
  • Review of Port‑wide goals, objectives, key performance indicators, and other strategic planning initiatives with the Executive Leadership Team
  • Assist with strategic planning SharePoint document/form creation
  • Assist with strategic planning facilitations and subsequent summary documents
Who you are:
  • A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) of a degree program related to public policy, communications, research, political science, business, or a related field.

  • Use of technology – You have knowledge on Microsoft Office products, with a strong emphasis in Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Communication –You possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and are skilled in working with diverse populations.

    You are comfortable speaking with senior leadership or elected officials.
  • Organized and proactive – You have a track record of successfully meeting tight deadlines in a fast‑paced working environment. You are self‑motivated, collaborative, and can balance and prioritize multiple, simultaneous projects with little supervision.
  • Desired – Experience synthesizing complex information into a format that is clear, concise and easily understood by a wide array of audiences.
What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule – Normal work hours will be arranged Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Work Environment – You will primarily work remotely in accordance with the Port’s Flexible Work Arrangement policy and may be required to work in an office environment as needed to meet business and operational needs.
  • Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than one year.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
