The Database Specialist provides critical support for tracking, processing, acknowledging, and reporting all charitable contributions. This position will primarily support Akin’s gift processing systems, ensuring seamless donation workflows and supporting the accuracy and efficiency of the constituent database system. The Database Specialist will also assist with the execution of email campaigns within the CRM and other duties as assigned. This position requires handling confidential donor information and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Gift Processing:
- Support Akin’s gift processing workflow and the Donor Database Manager, including entry of gifts and pledges, updating and maintaining database codes, and reporting.
- Assist with batch processing, donor acknowledgments, and donation receipts.
- Manage in-kind gift entry.
Greater Giving Platform and Events Support:
- Serve as the primary data team contact for events and the Greater Giving platform.
- Process and import event gifts into Virtuous and send gift receipts as needed.
- Pull event performance reports for the development team.
- Support event registration and manage email list updates.
- Assist with Greater Giving setup, including event website configuration.
Prospect Research:
- Conduct in-depth research on potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Identify potential donors based on their capacity, affinity, and connection to the organization's mission.
- Analyze complex financial and philanthropic data to assess donor capacity and identify potential giving patterns.
- Utilize various research tools and databases to gather information, including online resources, social media, and financial filings.
Database Management:
- Assist with system upgrades, testing, and the integration of third-party donation platforms such as Classy, Benevity, and Greater Giving with the development CRM.
- Collaborate with the Donor Database Manager to create and update fund codes within the CRM.
- Maintain data policies and conduct routine audits to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Marketing:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for creating and sending marketing emails within the donor database.
- Proofread and edit marketing emails and materials as needed.
Reporting:
- Assist in preparing financial reconciliation reports in collaboration with the Donor Database Manager.
- Generate pre- and post-event reports, including event performance analysis.
- Provide appeal analysis reports for fundraising campaigns.
- Support the Donor Database Manager in the annual institutional audit.
Other Responsibilities:
- Stay updated on industry best practices and software technologies.
- Outreach to monthly donors with declined credit card payments.
- Assist with the renewal and setup of profiles on third-party donation sites and manage donation reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of fundraising processes and online donation systems.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word merges, Excel formulas, and data manipulation).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to quickly learn complex data entry processes.
- Problem-solving skills for data integrity and reporting errors.
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, flexibility, dependability, and accountability.
- Familiarity with or interest in the principles of accessibility, inclusion, and belonging; and experience working successfully with colleagues, clients, or communities from a variety of backgrounds.

HYBRID WORK ARRANGEMENTS:
Hybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Hybrid work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in database administration or software applications
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
