Communications Assistant – City of Auburn (Washington)

Pay range: $64,890.96 / yr – $79,598.16 / yr (Base pay; actual pay based on skills and experience).
Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Communications Assistant assists the Communications Division in delivering timely and high‑quality communications:
- Support and maintain efficient print shop operations from job intake through final production and delivery.
- Perform routine and special mailing services, including bulk mail processing, shipping, and parcel delivery coordination.
- Maintain organization, inventory, and stocking of print shop and Communications Division supplies.
- Keep accurate records for communications services, including work orders, billing, and cost tracking.
- Assist with quotes, contracts, and coordination of outsourced commercial print services.
- Provide backup support across the Communications Division to ensure timely customer service and continuity of operations.
Additional duties include cutting and mounting posters, finishing large banners, coordinating high‑volume mailings, and assisting with various technology or equipment tasks. See the full job specification for more details.
Candidate ProfileRequired Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of relevant work‑related experience.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license without impending loss at the time of appointment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work reliably onsite with regular, punctual attendance.
- Basic computer skills and comfort learning new equipment and systems.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow procedures, safety guidelines, and confidentiality requirements.
- Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite products.
The Communications Assistant reports to the Communications Manager, operating under general supervision. Work is reviewed periodically and performance is managed through periodic reports and biannual check‑ins.
