Base pay range

$28.00/hr - $30.00/hr

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This role assists with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, grant and fund accounting, and financial reporting in support of the organization’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support grant and fund accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements and internal reports
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed
  • Support budget preparation and variance analysis
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation and accounting records
  • Collaborate with program and administrative staff to ensure proper financial coding
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliations
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with grant accounting or fund accounting
  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting and audits
  • Experience using nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., Sage)
