Base pay range$28.00/hr - $30.00/hr
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This role assists with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, grant and fund accounting, and financial reporting in support of the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support grant and fund accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds
- Assist in preparation of financial statements and internal reports
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed
- Support budget preparation and variance analysis
- Assist with annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation and accounting records
- Collaborate with program and administrative staff to ensure proper financial coding
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliations
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with grant accounting or fund accounting
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting and audits
- Experience using nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., Sage)
