AboutThe Role
The Deputy City Manager serves as a key advisor and partner to the City Manager, providing executive oversight to assigned departments and supporting efficient, accountable, and innovative city operations. This position may also serve as Acting City Manager when needed.

, the Deputy City Manager:
- Provides executive leadership to assigned departments, ensuring responsible stewardship and transparent operations.
- Advises and supports the City Manager with sound, strategic, and trustworthy decision-making.
- Builds strong collaborative relationships across departments, Council, staff, and the community.
- Upholds accountability by monitoring departmental performance, fiscal management, and regulatory compliance.
- Applies emotional intelligence and diplomacy when addressing complex issues and community concerns.
- Promotes social responsibility through active engagement with community groups and public partners.
- Confer with directors and other public officials to gather information required by the City Manager for the development of action plans and programs.
- Convey information and directives to City personnel regarding policies and programs; facilitate communications between the City Manager’s office and City departments.
- Assist the City Manager in the preparation of the City’s annual budget; assist the development of fiscal policies and confer with Finance and Systems staff regarding revenues and expenses.
- Direct report for Operations Directors:
Community and Economic Development, Public Works, and Parks, Community Programs and Services. - Attend a variety of meetings and conferences including City Council meetings; serve on committees and administrative boards and represent or accompany the City Manager as directed.
- Assist the development of fiscal policies for assigned departments and confer with Finance and Systems staff regarding revenues and expenses.
- Prepare a variety of written materials including administrative, special studies, correspondence and other documents.
- Prepare and make presentations to Council.
- Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for additional information from the City Council and the public; obtain and provide information as needed regarding City activities and services.
- Confer with community groups and organizations regarding proposed or existing City projects and programs; represent the City Manager at a variety of civic functions and events.
- Review and approve a variety of documents including proposed ordinances and resolutions for City Council consideration, requisitions for major purchases of goods and services and personnel requisitions for additional staffing according to established guidelines and within scope of authority.
- Provide direct oversight of Departments as assigned by City Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

RequiredEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Eight (8) years of experience working in a government agency, including five (5) years in a management position in a highly complex public service organization.
