Job Title: Instructional Coach

Primary Purpose:

Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers to ensure the continuous development of high quality instruction among campus teaching staff.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Valid Texas teaching certificate
• Master's degree in Education from an accredited university (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
• Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
• Ability to develop and deliver professional learning to adult learners
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to integrate technology into student instruction and adult professional development
• Ability to work with and lead adult learners

Experience:

• At least 5 years of teaching experience within core subjects
• Leadership experience (i.e. campus team leader, department chair, lead campus committees, etc )

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

• Meet and coach teachers and teams to collaboratively evaluate student learning.
• Develop teachers' content knowledge, vertical alignment of curriculum and needs of diverse learners.
• Shares with campus staff research based best practices and resources.
• Utilize data to build teachers' capacity and make informed decisions about instructional practices.
• Supports and develops teachers' by co-teaching, modeling, and observing and providing feedback.
• Supports teachers in implementing the district curriculum/unit plans with fidelity.
• Provides job-embedded professional learning for individual teachers and collaborative teams that positively impacts student achievement.
• Serves as a mentor for teachers.

Leadership

• Serves as a role model for district and campus vision through attitudes, behaviors, and actions.
• Collaborates regularly with district Instructional Coordinators and campus leadership.
• Actively shares and participates in the learning process with campus staff.
• Develops positive working relationships with district and campus staff, honoring confidentiality as appropriate.
• Influences change for the improvement of Tier 1 instruction by introducing new ideas, making observations, questioning current practices, and exploring alternatives.
• Models continuous learning on current best practice as a leader on the campus.

Staff Development

• Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher's individual professional development and student learning.
• Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom, as needed.
• Participate, support, and help facilitate (as needed) PLC meetings at the campus level.
• Monitor and support the first-year teachers in the district with a focus on effective classroom instruction, classroom management, developing a positive learning climate, and consistent interventions.
• Plan and provide appropriate staff development in conjunction with campus administration.

Other

• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
