Simply Education is currently working with a local specialist school to recruit a dynamic and resilient teaching assistant to join their team! This role will be full-time and starting as soon as possible, supporting a curriculum that focuses on communication, independence, and life skills.
The successful candidate will support students aged 11-19 with a range of complex needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism, and profound physical disabilities. As a teaching assistant, you will foster a positive environment that mirrors the school's commitment to preparing every young person for adulthood within a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. Each day is different, so you must be adaptable and have a strong understanding of Special Educational Needs.
Key responsibilities:
Building Positive Relationships:
Establishing trusting relationships is essential. Every teaching assistant should create a nurturing environment where students feel safe to express themselves using their preferred communication methods.
Implementing Behaviour Management Strategies: A teaching assistant will assist in implementing support plans. This involves using techniques such as positive reinforcement, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills to promote emotional regulation.
Providing Emotional Support:
Students may require additional support to build resilience. Every teaching assistant should be an empathetic listener, providing encouragement to help students cope with sensory or learning challenges.
Supporting Inclusion:
Teaching assistants help promote inclusion by facilitating the participation of students, they may collaborate with teachers to modify activities and assignments to ensure accessibility for all students.
The ideal candidate:
Previous experience in a school setting or alternatively, experience in a care setting supporting children with learning disabilities is essential.
An adaptable, patient, and resilient teaching assistant who understands the importance of small-step progress.
Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support are advantageous but not essential.
A committed teaching assistant with a strong focus on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
