Do you have experience as a SENDCo or Assistant/Trainee SENDCo, preferably within a SEND/SEMH setting, and are ready for your next challenge?
Part of a well-established group of independent, specialist schools, this SEMH Provision in Scunthorpe is seeking a SENDCo on a permanent basis as soon as possible (notice period dependent).
The school:
- Caters for children age 11-16 years with ASC and complex SEMH needs
- High staff-student ratio, small class sizes (max. 6 pupils)
- Trauma-informed practice, nurture-style teaching
- Curriculum tailored to individual student needs
- Salary £35-50k
Person specification:
- SENDCo qualification is desirable, but the school are happy to put you through your NPQSENDCO so this is not essential
- Experience working as SENDCo, or Assistant/Trainee SENDCo, ready for a full SENDCo position
- Worked within Special Education, confident handling SENDCo administration and EHCP implementation
- Calm, resilient and eager to support children aged 11-16 years with ASC and complex SEMH
- Familiar with liaising with multi-disciplinary teams of school staff, parents, therapists and LA workers, as well as handling record-keeping, EHCPs and annual reviews
- Organised, with excellent record-keeping and report-writing skills
This is a rare opportunity to join this small, friendly specialist school as part of their leadership team. As SENDCo, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing SEND strategy within classrooms, meeting individual student needs and tailoring SEND input to their requirements.
You will maintain SEND reports and ensure implementation of SEND policy. A big part of the SENDCo role is liaising with school staff, parents and external therapists and SEND professionals within the LA to ensure the child's needs are met within school. You will observe lessons, ensuring teachers are familiar with strategies needed to suit a child's needs, and meet regularly with other SLT members to ensure SEND policy is aligned across the school.
This school is well-run, with a low staff turnover, and are highly supportive, making it an ideal environment for you to develop your skills and build SENDCo experience. With very small class sizes, a personalised approach to learning, and a strong coherent team, you will make a real difference to the lives of small groups of SEMH children.
The SENDCo position is suitable for an experienced candidate, someone who has completed their SENDCo qualification, or someone ready for their first challenge in a SENDCo leadership role!
