Job responsibilitiesCambridgeshire County Councils Emergency Duty Team has a fantastic opportunity for a permanent full‑time Team Manager.
We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to manage the Emergency Duty Team (EDT), a shared service across Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council that covers Adults and Children. This post is for an Adults Team Manager and you must be an experienced manager, registered Social Worker, and warranted Approved Mental Health Practitioner to lead this out‑of‑hours service.
This is a critical out‑of‑hours management role ensuring the delivery of a safe, high‑quality crisis response service for adults. The EDT fulfils the statutory duty of the Councils to provide the out‑of‑hours AMHP service 37 hours per week, mainly from Monday‑Thursday 5 pm to 8 am, Friday 4 pm to Monday 8 am, including bank holidays.
The role involves managing a team of 5 senior social workers and relief social workers, providing supervision and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. The manager also supports the Children part of the service on a rota basis.

In this role, you will lead with purpose, supporting and inspiring a dedicated EDT AMHP team while championing wellbeing, high‑quality practice, and legal excellence. You will ensure that every Mental Health Act assessment is carried out to the highest standard, with full compliance to legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and best‑practice guidance.
You will help shape the future of the service by contributing to strategic planning and service innovation, ensuring a responsive and effective AMHP provision. Working collaboratively across agencies, you will use your expert legal knowledge to strengthen partnerships and deliver joined‑up, person‑centred support.
You will be responsible for workforce development, including workforce planning, professional development and performance oversight, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. As a leader, you will bring resilience and clarity to emergency planning, service continuity and organisational change.
