Overview
Bakery Clerk position involving customer service, product preparation, inventory management, and promotion of bakery items. Maintains cleanliness and safety of the bakery area and adheres to labeling, temperature, and code dating policies.
Responsibilities- Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast and friendly customer service.
- Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food preparation suggestions. Answers questions regarding ingredients, price, and freshness of products.
- Answers and responds to incoming calls, resolves customer complaints appropriately, and reports to Store Director as needed.
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer interaction.
- Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including personalization and messages on cakes with icing.
- Implements proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques.
- Maintains bakery case cleanliness, sample tray, visual appeal, and inventory levels; ensures proper cleanliness, sanitation, and safe work environment.
- Slices bread and prepares all bakery items (proofing, baking, packaging, icing).
- Maintains proper temperatures in all phases of preparation, display, and storage.
- Performs or assists with physical inventory and maintains inventory levels, rotates stock, and organizes cooler.
- Follows opening and closing department procedures; builds displays and implements promotional and seasonal displays.
- Performs receiving duties, verifies orders, inspects quality, and maintains records; adheres to product temperature and storage guidelines and proper packaging techniques.
- Maintains daily logs and required paperwork (Production Chart, Sales and Labor, etc.).
- Controls shrink and cost; ensures proper temperature, signing, labeling, and code dating in accordance with policies.
- Adheres to workplace safety rules and maintains sanitation of sales floor, work area, and equipment.
- Performs all duties safely, accurately, with honesty and integrity; performs other necessary duties as required.
Physical Requirements
- Requires good communication and interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
- Understanding of bakery department policies and procedures; ability to follow department standards.
- Physical ability to repeatedly reach, lift up to 60 lbs, bend, stoop, push/pull, and stand for long periods; manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics, weights and measures, product variety, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.
- Operates telephones, pallet jack, hand truck, knives, slicers, mixers, ovens, and other equipment; handles latex products; may require night, weekend, and holiday work with good attendance.
- Follows grooming standards and dress code; understands safety and sanitation practices.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; scheduled hours vary.
Sales and store support team members interact with customers to ensure stores are clean, organized, and shoppable. You may replenish shelves, arrange items, receive freight, and be the face of the company, making a positive difference in customers’ lives and community.
