Purpose and Scope
Oversees and coordinates customer service, inventory and inventory control, merchandising, and other related activities for the Parish Gift Shop. Schedules, leads and oversees day-to-day activities of volunteer/staff engaged in routine retail sales, stock management and customer service activities. Provides input into operating budgets, policies and procedures, and provides leadership in the general marketing of the Parish Gift Shop. Manages annual budget.
Tracks trends in religious product to offer customers a current product line.
- Manager of the Parish Gift Shop and is primary business and operational contact.
- Offers customers value and satisfaction through service and selection of product fitting to all liturgical seasons and events
- Supervises volunteers. Serves as lead in hiring, training of volunteers; plans volunteer/staff work schedules according to projected business levels.
- Assists with the development and implementation of annual operating budget. Collaborates with parish Finance Manager on all volunteering/hiring and Safe Environment Training policies and procedures.
- Oversees inventory and merchandising; serves as buyer, meeting with vendors and product representatives to select marketable goods and gifts appropriate to the buying audience, season, and customer demand. Collaborates with Director of Liturgy and other appropriate personnel to purchase items needed at greatest savings to parish.
- Schedules work within the area, ensuring all floor requirements are covered.
- Monitors sales through the Point of Sale system (Square); resolves discrepancies, prepares, reconciles and records cash received for deposit. Prepares sales reports; supervises and participates in inventory of merchandise and stock.
- Monitors and coordinates ordering, receipt and return of merchandise, verifies invoices and billing and resolve errors and discrepancies; as appropriate, coordinates shipping and/or delivery of merchandise to customers.
- Participates in the establishment and implementation of general marketing plans and programs for the Parish Gift Shop; changes display regularly with consideration to buying audience and season.
- Implements and maintains Gift Shop website with current product offering and operational considerations. Works with parish Communications Director with regard to technical operation of website and other media platforms.
- Monitors general housekeeping of the area; ensures equipment and facilities are in good repair.
- Responsible for customer and employee safety.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Ability to manage and prioritize, and ability to be flexible and adaptable.
- Extensive knowledge of merchandising techniques, store display and selling methods preferred
- Knowledge of Retail best practices.
- Merchandise buying experience preferred.
- Point of sale system experience required.
- Knowledge of setting up online store and sales
- Active Minimum two-years of retail management required, preferably in gift shop setting.
- University level coursework in management, retail, and merchandising preferred.
- Computer/Microsoft Office proficiency
- Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills a plus.
· This position requires the ability to work in a retail store environment including working in small spaces, physical movement around retail displays, bending lifting, stocking fixtures, etc.
