Workers' Compensation Claims Director or Sr. Manager
AmTrust Financial Services is seeking a Director (or Senior Manager) of Workers' Compensation Claims to lead a growing team supporting California and Arizona claim operations. This leader will partner closely with Claims Leadership and Claim Managers (5‑8 direct reports) to ensure claims are handled according to AmTrust Best Practices, while driving high performance, mentorship, and staff development.

This role is ideal for someone who brings strong California WC experience and is excited to help shape strategy, improve processes, and grow talent in a rapidly expanding, high‑visibility environment. The position is hybrid, based out of our Scottsdale, AZ office.
Responsibilities- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop a team of 5‑8 Claim Managers.
- Champion recruitment, mentorship, skill‑building, and internal mobility, helping grow future WC leaders from within.
- Foster a fun, energetic, collaborative culture within a rapidly expanding Scottsdale office. - Strategic & Operational Oversight
- Develop short‑range plans and budgets in alignment with company objectives.
- Ensure adherence to all AmTrust policies, procedures, and controls.
- Provide consistent communication to Claims Supervisors on case activity, performance, and operational needs.
- Participate in and guide strategic initiatives, determined based on the leader's background and strengths. - Claims Quality & Process Improvement
- Oversee claims for CA and AZ jurisdictions, ensuring high quality, cost‑effective handling.
- Improve and refine processes within the claims system and workflow.
- Monitor and guide vendor usage; oversee attorney panel management and strategy.
- Participate in hearings, trials, depositions, and settlement negotiations as needed. - Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner with underwriting and sales teams to support business development opportunities.
- Conduct audits to ensure consistent quality, compliance, and application of company standards.
- Stay current on relevant laws and regulations and communicate changes to staff.
- Perform other projects as assigned.
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
- California Workers' Compensation experience required (supervisor‑level or above).
- Experience managing or leading workers compensation claims teams.
- Proven ability in staff leadership, coaching, and development.
- Familiarity with applicable state and federal WC laws and regulations.
- Local to Scottsdale, AZ or able to work onsite on a hybrid basis.
The expected salary range for this role is $120,500–$160,000 annually.
