Building Maintenance, Facility Maintenance
Position Objective
This is the entry level into the facilities services series. Incumbents perform basic custodial, building or grounds maintenance, or general laborer work. Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up. Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.
OverviewEntry level role focused on custodial, facilities maintenance, and general labor tasks in a school district setting.
Duties and Responsibilities- Performs manual labor activities, including emptying trash, gathering materials and equipment, placing materials in proper locations, sweeping, setting up furniture/equipment, digging, cleaning, moving furnishings, painting, and related tasks.
- Assists internal customers with requests and inquiries; responds to emergency situations as required to ensure safety of students and staff.
- Maintains facilities, vehicles, and equipment; troubleshoots, performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance; monitors inventory of supplies.
- Notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs.
- Under direction, performs routine minor repairs.
- Assists in routine grounds maintenance activities, including picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and weeding planter areas.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
High School Diploma or G.E.D., or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Positions require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Heavy work may involve exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
