Sr. Data Engineer

Overview

Swoon is actively hiring a Sr. Data Engineer to join the team!

• Architect and implement scalable data pipelines across AWS and GCP using dbt-core and Apache Airflow, supporting ingestion, transformation, and analytics workflows in a production environment.
• Lead the modernization of legacy ETL systems into modular, event-driven, CI/CD-enabled analytics engineering pipelines that are testable, traceable, and performance-optimized.
• Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert
  , driving data modeling standards, performance tuning, cloud architecture decisions, and best practices across the data engineering team.
• Own end-to-end delivery of major data initiatives
  , from design through deployment, ensuring stability, maintainability, and measurable impact on business outcomes.
• Implement data quality, governance, and monitoring frameworks to ensure integrity, security, and reliability across Redshift, S3, Big Query, and GCS environments.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders and leadership
  , translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights while mentoring engineers and shaping the team’s long-term data strategy.

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of progressive experience in data engineering or related field, including at least 2 years of leadership or managerial experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Advanced Data Engineering Expertise: 8+ years designing, building, and optimizing complex ETL/ELT pipelines in production environments, with deep hands-on experience in dbt-core and Apache Airflow.
• Cloud & Database Proficiency: Strong expertise in AWS and/or GCP, including Redshift, S3, Big Query, and GCS; advanced SQL skills; extensive experience with large-scale relational databases, data lakes, and cloud warehouse architectures.

  Skills:
  
  Proficiency in Python (preferred), Scala, or Java; strong knowledge of data modeling, schema design, performance tuning, and modern cloud-native architecture patterns; experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Data Governance & Quality Leadership: Proven experience implementing data quality frameworks, governance standards, monitoring/alerting systems, and ensuring security, compliance, and reliability of enterprise data platforms.
• Leadership & Communication Strength: Demonstrated ability to lead major data initiatives end-to-end, mentor engineers, define technical standards, influence stakeholders, and translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned solutions within agile environments.

Hybrid role – 3 days a week on-site

Hourly Rate - $100,000 - $110,000
