Job Summary:
Responsible for performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify microorganisms, analyze chemical content, cross match blood, and prepare blood products aseptically. Ensure accurate testing within turnaround times, complete documentation, and follow up on critical results. Prepare specimens, understand factors affecting test accuracy, operate laboratory instruments, perform maintenance, calibrations, quality control, troubleshooting, and refer unusual cases to supervisors or pathologists.
Maintain continuing education and ensure compliance with hospital, regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards. Proficient in hospital, laboratory, and office computer systems. As needed, assist, train, and orient new staff and students, assist in regulatory preparation, maintain supplies, and practice cost containment. Review policies and procedures timely. Perform other duties as assigned, including phlebotomy.
Education:
Associate's Degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences, or medical laboratory technology, or equivalent education and training. For high complexity testing performed before April 24, 1995, with a high school diploma and documented training, testing on those tests is permitted.
