Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of the organization and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This position manages financial records, prepares monthly financial statements, monitors internal controls, and supports budgeting and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
The Controller will also work closely with administrative staff to ensure proper handling of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and Title IV financial processes.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting- Oversee daily operations of the accounting department
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
- Reconcile daily and monthly bank balances through Quick Books Online
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and compliance metrics
- Manage bad debt and allowance for doubtful accounts
- Maintain accounting functionality within the student database system
- Work with the Office Manager to ensure timely processing of accounts payable through QBO/
- Coordinate with the Office Manager and Financial Aid Officer to ensure accounts receivable are properly scheduled and collected
- Manage third‑party collection agency relationships
- Process semi‑monthly payroll through ADP Run
- Support HR functions including employee benefits, unemployment claims, and handbook updates
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable reporting requirements
- Coordinate with the Financial Aid Officer on Title IV fund drawdowns
- Assist with regulatory filings including accreditation, licensing, and IPEDS reporting
- Maintain internal controls and separation of duties
- Prepare and update budgets and cash flow forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against budgets
- Manage annual financial audits with external auditors
- Coordinate annual commercial insurance renewal with broker
- Provide occasional office support as needed
- Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with staff and students
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Minimum 3 years of GAAP accounting experience
- Strong financial reporting and reconciliation experience
- Experience with accounting systems such as Quick Books Online
- Payroll processing experience (ADP preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience in education, higher education, or Title IV environments
- Experience with student information systems or non‑integrated accounting systems
Monday – Friday. Occasional after‑hours work may be required during transition periods.
