Controller - Construction Industry

Position Overview

Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Controller to lead the financial operations for a mid-sized construction contractor located in Scottsdale, AZ. This full-time role is integral to the organization and requires a professional with deep expertise in construction accounting to manage financial reporting, controls, and project management support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, job cost reports, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
• Develop and refine financial processes, controls, and reporting standards.
• Collaborate with project managers to analyze job performance, cost trends, and forecasts.
• Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a supportive team environment.
• Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to leadership.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of construction industry accounting experience required.
• Expertise in Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and construction-specific accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Must be able to work 100% in-office at the Scottsdale, AZ location.

Required Work Hours

Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 100% onsite presence.

Additional Details

The compensation for this position ranges from $50 to $55 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
