ActuarialSpecialist, Property & Casualty
Role Overview: The Specialist, Actuarial - P&C will focus primarily on the surety line of business. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on non-traditional lines and engage in portfolio management using simulations to assess risk and improve models. Additional responsibilities include supporting excess casualty transactional pricing and loss rating.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct actuarial analyses and support portfolio management.
- Use simulations to assess risk, develop assumptions, and improve models.
- Present findings to underwriters and stakeholders.
- Develop business relationships across multi-channel finance.
- Assist with transactional pricing and loss rating.
- Engage in data analysis.
Skills:
- Proficiency in actuarial methodologies and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills for presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Skills:
- Experience with Python or R.
- Hybrid schedule preferred, with 2 days per week at one of our office locations in Columbus, OH, Des Moines, IA, or Scottsdale, AZ. This role will be staffed at the F4 internal pay band.

As an Actuarial Specialist, you’ll gain thorough knowledge of our actuarial functions for our P&C products, performing increasingly complex mathematical and quantitative analyses crucial to Nationwide's success and customer protection.
This position offers participation in the P&C Actuarial Rotation Program, allowing rotations across different actuarial, analytics, and risk management teams to develop broad expertise. Details will be provided upon start.
Additional Responsibilities:- Develop deeper knowledge of actuarial methodologies and data manipulation.
- Conduct analyses adhering to actuarial standards, making assumptions and developing recommendations.
- Document assumptions, methods, and sources clearly.
- Present findings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain adherence to work schedules and notify leadership of potential delays.
- Perform peer reviews to ensure quality and foster collaboration.
- Build business relationships across finance and other areas to gain insight.
- Assist with onboarding and training new associates.
- Use data mining techniques and explore new software for predictive modeling.
Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.
Qualifications:- Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or similar.
- Passed four or more actuarial exams and enrolled in the Actuarial Student Program.
- Three or more years of actuarial experience.
- Knowledge of actuarial methods, software, and databases.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, analytical software, and programming languages.
- Skills in problem solving, customer focus, and dealing with ambiguity.
