About the Job
The Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering design, analysis, and documentation of fabric and Clear Span structural systems for Will Scot. This is a highly technical, senior‑level role focused on developing engineered structural solutions using Solid Works, supporting both existing systems and new structural concepts from initial design through production and field deployment.
This role works closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Operations, and external engineering partners to ensure structures are safe, code‑compliant, manufacturable, and scalable.
What You'll Be Doing- Design fabric and Clear Span structural systems using Solid Works, including frames, connections, anchoring, and integration with modular or temporary structures.
- Develop complete 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings suitable for fabrication and installation.
- Support structural layouts, load paths, and system configurations for site‑specific applications.
- Create and maintain detailed drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Develop bills of material (BOMs), hardware schedules, and fabrication details.
- Support tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing documentation as required.
- Work with Product Management to translate functional and customer requirements into engineered structural solutions.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure designs are producible, cost‑effective, and scalable.
- Coordinate with external engineers, fabricators, and vendors as needed.
- Support prototype builds, testing plans, and validation of structural systems.
- Assist with field installs and evaluations to validate performance and identify design improvements.
- Support continuous improvement based on testing results, field feedback, and operational lessons learned.
- Work with program and product teams to meet component‑level and system‑level cost targets.
- Support standardization efforts across product lines where applicable.
- Assist with quality control, product standardization, and end‑of‑line testing procedures.
- Support warranty analysis, durability assessments, and usable life evaluations.
- Support Product Management and Legal in identifying, documenting, and pursuing intellectual property opportunities related to structural designs.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably involving: fabric structures, Clear Span / tensioned membrane systems, structural steel or aluminum systems, temporary or modular structures.
- Advanced proficiency in Solid Works (required).
- Strong experience creating detailed fabrication‑ready drawings and assemblies.
- Working knowledge of structural systems, connections, and constructability considerations.
- Experience supporting prototypes, field installs, and iterative design improvements.
