Under general supervision the Network Engineer I sets up, configures and supports network infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Network Architecture & Implementation
- Assist in the design and deployment of networking technology solutions that emphasize security, resilience, and scalability.
- Contribute to the development of disaster recovery strategies and highly available network architectures under the guidance of the Principal Engineer.
- Specialized Responsibilities (Access & Core Refresh Initiatives)
- Support the Principal Engineer on N7K N9K core replacement and other C9300 Switch Refresh initiatives impacting HQ and Alameda campuses.
- Participate in physical cutovers, validation steps, rollback execution, and equipment decommissioning.
- Execute standardized designs and automation tools developed by the remote engineering team.
- Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Support the maintenance and monitoring of systems, applications, security tools, and network configurations to ensure compliance with enterprise and industry standards.
- Perform advanced network administration tasks software updates, patches, configuration changes ensuring accuracy and adherence to approved designs.
- Network Services & Infrastructure Management
- Execute installations, configurations, and maintenance of network devices, telecommunications systems, and LAN/WAN/WLAN/SD-WAN hardware and software in alignment with enterprise priorities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues involving network service devices, network security platforms, and telecom services; recommend mitigation steps to prevent recurrence.
- Project Support & Delivery
- Support large, complex infrastructure projects, contributing technical expertise and executing work streams defined by the Principal Engineer.
- Assist in research, evaluation, and testing of new technologies and tools to improve performance and reliability; participate in implementing approved solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Server, Security, and Facilities teams during planned changes and maintenance events.
- This position requires one year of network infrastructure experience.
- Working knowledge of one or more of the following systems: network operating systems, network topologies, network hardware, computer operating systems, routing, switching, data privacy, security and telecommunication systems is necessary.
- Understanding of network services availability, performance, and security preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including skills with Word, Excel and Visio are necessary.
- This position requires good verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet deadlines and present a professional demeanor is essential.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, multi-task, and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines simultaneously is required.
- Customer service skills, including the ability to manage and respond to different customer situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude are essential.
- Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and upholding Company values are key attributes.
- In addition, organizational and problem-solving skills, a can‑do attitude, and the ability to adjust to changing requirements are essential.
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, IT Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching is preferred
Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
Work HoursNormal work hours are 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime (more than forty hours per week) may be necessary.
