Overview

Teacher - Elementary position with responsibilities for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with teachers, professional staff, and administrators; and communicating with parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions
  • Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject‑specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or develop individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, student achievements, and methods for improvement at home.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
  • Differentiates classroom work to address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address student needs.
  • Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through defined lesson plans.
  • Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in classrooms, on playgrounds, on field trips, and other environments to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
  • Participates on PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
  • Participates in meetings (staff, district, IEPs, 504s, etc.) to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies for student safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues and provide information or direction.
  • Other functions as assigned to support efficient and effective unit operations.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills, Knowledge And Abilities: apply assessment instruments; operate standard office equipment and relevant software; teach Arizona State recognized standards; prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge: mathematics content including algebra and/or geometry; read technical information; compose documents; facilitate group discussions; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; knowledge of codes, policies, regulations and laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; developmental stages; behavioral management strategies.
  • Ability: schedule activities, gather and classify data; work with others in diverse circumstances; use data with defined processes; operate equipment; maintain confidentiality; adapt to changing priorities; establish constructive relationships; demonstrate tact and patience; work flexible hours.
