Navajo Transitional Energy Company’s Antelope Mine is looking for a new Staff Accountant to join our team!
Description:Must take a personal and active approach to health, safety and environment and understand and follow all state, federal and company health, safety and environmental requirements applicable to the work area and tasks assigned.
Summary of Position:The Site Staff Accountant role is responsible for a variety of accounting duties related to timely and accurate monthly close and performing daily accounting activities with a focus on completeness and accuracy.
- Responsible for preparing monthly and ad hoc internal management reports with an attitude of continual improvement.
- Perform various account analyses relating to actual, forecast, and budget performance, preparation of variance commentary, and supporting schedules.
- Work with a variety of people across the organization to gather and process data and turn it into useful information.
- Responsible for preparing and posting transactions to the general ledger, reconciling general ledger accounts, reviewing discrepancies, and making any necessary corrections.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of work product, proper accounting treatment of transactions, and adherence to best-practice documentation and review standard.
- Apply principles of accounting to analyze and prepare financial information.
- Prepare work papers that are organized, neat, cross-referenced and supported by conclusions.
- Able to use reference materials in researching accounting issues.
- Desire and aptitude to help support the department’s software applications, including SAP’s BPC
- Perform control activities and maintain appropriate control documentation. Assist with other internal audit work that may be necessary
- Assist Payroll with processing and researching issues
Knowledge and Relevant Experience
BS/BA degree in business, finance, accounting or working towards a related degree
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
One to three years of public company corporate accounting experience and/or public accounting experience preferred
CPA preferred or the willingness and ability to pursue a CPA within two (2) years Skills:Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Manage multiple assignments simultaneously and have strong organizational skills
Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes.
Ability to be flexible, work with interruptions and shift priorities as required.
Demonstrates a strong ability to be process driven
Ability to explain the “why” not just the “what”
Leadership/Management:Ability to build relationships and work well across functions
Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Employee is required to have the ability to: continuously sit, stand, forward bend while standing, and kneel; frequently stand, sit, forward bend while standing or sitting, rotate while sitting or standing, walk, crouch, climb stairs, and perform repetitive squats;
occasionally grip up to 30 pounds and crawl; rarely lift up to 60 pounds to waist, lift up to 40 pounds to crown, lift up to 34 pounds horizontally, front carry up to 50 pounds, push with up to 60 pounds of force, perform elevated work, climb stepladders, and swing up to 12 pound sledge hammer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
Works in office environment and rarely site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
