The RoleThe Senior Accountant partners closely with the Controller to manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and uphold strong internal controls. This role has primary responsibility for general ledger activities and month-end close, with hands-on involvement and oversight of accounts payable and procurement workflows.
While this position includes direct participation in accounts payable processing, it also carries responsibility for review, reconciliation, and improving processes to support efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across the organization.
What You'll DoGeneral Ledger & Close
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
- Ensure accurate general ledger coding across departments, funds, and programs
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal management reports
Accounts Payable & Procurement
- Perform and oversee full-cycle accounts payable processing in Net Suite
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy, coding, approvals, and policy compliance
- Prepare and review weekly ACH and check payment runs
- Maintain vendor records, including setup, updates, and W-9/W-8
BEN documentation - Support procurement workflows, including requisitions and purchase orders
Compliance & Support
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and nonprofit compliance requirements
- Support annual 1099 preparation and filing
- Provide accounting and AP guidance to program and operations staff
- Support payroll as a secondary responsibility
- Partner with the Controller on special projects and system enhancements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, including significant accounts payable responsibility
- Strong experience working in an accounting system or ERP (Net Suite preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Solid knowledge of GAAP; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to balance hands-on execution with review, judgment, and process improvement
