Position SummarySoundscape Engineering is seeking a Senior Acoustics Consultant to join our Chicago office. This role is ideal for an experienced acoustical professional who enjoys technical problem-solving, client interaction, and collaboration across disciplines. You will lead and contribute to a wide range of acoustical consulting projects from design through construction.
Key Responsibilities- Review and analyze architectural and engineering designs for new construction and renovation projects
- Assess and diagnose acoustical issues in existing buildings
- Perform calculations, field measurements, and computer modeling related to:
- Sound isolation
- Room acoustics
- Building MEP system noise and vibration control
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate reports
- Collaborate daily with Soundscape staff to deliver high-quality, timely project outcomes tailored to client needs
- Communicate regularly with clients via meetings, calls, and written correspondence
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings
- Conduct site visits, respond to RFIs, and review submittals during construction administration
- Strong analytical skills with excellent technical writing capabilities
- Solid understanding of building design and construction processes
- Working knowledge of building mechanical systems
- Confident and professional presence in client and project meetings
- Experience conducting sound and vibration measurements
- Proficiency with acoustical and data analysis software, including:
- Soundplan, EASE, INSUL, LabVIEW, Excel
- NTi Audio Data Explorer, Price All-In-One, or similar tools
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to travel using a personal vehicle when mass transit is unavailable
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience performing similar work in an acoustical consulting environment
- Willingness and ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or INCE Board Certification
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Master of Science in Engineering
- Active P.E. license
- INCE Board Certification
- Experience working within the Chicago market
- Periodic travel by air or road, including occasional long driving days
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Ability to carry up to 40 lbs over uneven terrain, construction sites, and stairways
- Occasional climbing of building and construction site ladders
- Operation of computers, sound and vibration measurement equipment, and standard office machinery
- Frequent verbal and written communication in English
- Occasional extended workdays and nighttime site measurements
