Overview:

This consulting engagement places a Senior Manager, Accounting into a high-profile finance improvement initiative focused on strengthening core accounting operations and close processes. Working closely with the Controller and cross-functional stakeholders, the consultant will assess current general ledger, close, and inventory accounting practices; identify improvement opportunities; and help design and implement more robust, scalable processes to enhance accuracy, control, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and improve general accounting and close processes across the organization
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and subledger integrity
  • Evaluate inventory accounting and related controls in a manufacturing/CPG environment
  • Strengthen close governance, documentation, and review procedures
  • Ensure alignment with US GAAP and internal control standards
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain on inventory accuracy, counts, and reconciliations
  • Support preparation and improvement of internal and external financial reporting
  • Collaborate with FP&A on variance analysis and financial insights
  • Identify and implement process and efficiency improvements
  • Support accounting process redesign initiatives in a consulting/advisory capacity
  • Mentor and guide accounting staff as needed during engagement
  • Deliver practical recommendations and tools to sustain improved accounting performance
Previous

Experience:
  • Managed day-to-day accounting activities (JEs, reconciliations, subledgers)
  • Led monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles
  • Reviewed and approved reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments
  • Ensured compliance with US GAAP, policies, and controls
  • Oversaw inventory accounting (standard cost, valuation, BOM, reserves, reconciliations)
  • Partnered cross-functionally on inventory and manufacturing finance topics
  • Prepared or supported financial reporting packages
  • Performed budget vs. actual and ad hoc financial analysis with FP&A
  • Implemented accounting process improvements
  • Mentored and developed accounting team members
  • Participated in accounting transformation or optimization initiatives
  • Supported stakeholders in adopting improved processes
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA a plus
  • 7+ years progressive accounting experience with supervisory responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, close processes, reconciliations, and inventory accounting
  • ERP system proficiency and advanced Excel capability
  • Demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes and controls
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments
  • Clear communication and collaborative working style
  • Strongly preferred: manufacturing, CPG, or Food & Beverage experience
Nice to Have:
  • Consulting or advisory experience in accounting operations or close optimization
  • Big 4 or CPA firm background
