Join JLL as a Building Operations Technician where you'll be the backbone of facility operations, ensuring optimal building performance and tenant satisfaction through comprehensive maintenance and technical expertise. This role is essential to JLL's service delivery excellence, combining hands‑on mechanical work with advanced building systems management to maintain safe, efficient, and comfortable environments. You'll work with cutting‑edge HVAC systems, building automation technology, and perform diverse maintenance tasks that keep commercial properties operating at peak performance.

This position offers the opportunity to apply technical skills across multiple trades while contributing directly to tenant satisfaction and building asset value.

What your day‑to‑day will look like
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers while troubleshooting building automation systems (BAS)
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and maintain detailed equipment logs to ensure optimal building performance
  • Respond promptly to tenant service requests related to temperature control, plumbing, electrical issues, and general maintenance needs
  • Complete diverse maintenance tasks including painting, pressure washing, lighting system maintenance, water treatment, furniture repair, and locksmith work
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections, troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems, and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Move office furniture, machinery, and equipment as requested while participating in emergency response procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and equipment performance for reporting and compliance purposes
Required Qualifications
  • Current 399 Union membership in good standing
  • Valid Operating Engineer license
  • HVAC certification and/or refrigerant handling certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • 3+ years of experience in building operations, repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry
  • Universal CFC EPA certification or commitment to achieve within first year of employment
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to read blueprints and technical manuals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with building automation systems and energy management practices
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, trade school education, union training, or military service background
  • College education or additional technical certifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • Strong customer service skills and tenant interaction experience
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and emergency response procedures
  • Experience in commercial property maintenance or similar facility operations environment
Location

On‑site – Schaumburg, IL

Work Shift

from 3 pm to 11 pm – with potential for shift work including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response

Compensation

Estimated compensation for this position:  –  USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
